MUSIC

I don't claim to be any kind of musician
but I do enjoy poking around with electronic music. My interest began back in college when I was introduced to multi-track recording. Years ago, I bought a used 4-track porta-studio, a beat-up drum machine, a couple of keyboards and really began to have fun with it. Those sessions resulted in two compilations; "Bigfish and Paperbirds" and "Never odd or eveN"

Today I do use mostly Cakewalk, utilizing soundfonts and some sampling. The music has become much better over the years, and it's interesting hearing the songs in chronological order, you can really here how the music has evolved over the years.

Although it's been a while since I've "entered the studio", I am dabbling again on a new project. The working title is "Serious Playground" and will be more of the usual mix of thump-thump nosebleed stuff and ambient electronic.

IMPORTANT UPDATE*

I have introduced an online MP3 player for all of the music.
To listen to tracks online, simply go to the media player in the right column, and click the song you want to hear.
Or if you prefer to download the file to your computer, you can get it from the descriptions below.

To download a file, simply right click on the file name, and select save as

Please note, that songs marked with * denote personal favourites

Enjoy!!!

Serious PLayground is my first completely digital compilation. So far I've only have completed three songs, but rest assured more are on their way. I think these are amongst my best work so far. So stay tuned.

Braddy's Theme is a nice moody little downbeat ambient kind of deal.
RAEL is sort of a neo-classical baroque piano type deal, with tons of layering with lots of stereo effects.

Keep an eye out for more music as it becomes available.

trinitY (andotherweaponsof massdestruction) is easily my most best compilation to date. After working out the bugs in most of my other attempts, these tracks are by far some of my best yet ...

Each track from this compilation is named after experimental atomic blasts, Trinity being history's first atomic blast. Surprisingly, the compilation was completed before the war in Iraq, and this was really just sort of a weird coincidence.
This has a nice combination of ambient and "dance" music. Although I do not consider this to be true dance music.

auk and abo are very ambient, and are two of my all time favourite tracks

y-echo uses samples from the movie "Bladerunner", and Ocate is only the second track ever in which I have used my own voice.

this entire composition was created and performed using Cakewalk and Soundfont
technology, although a few songs still used analog synths and analog drum machines.

16 | sulfur
17 | Wait

Bigfish and Paperbirds is the follow up to Never odd or eveN. Where Never odd or eveN contained several covers of other artists, this second release contains new material and remixes from part one. Several of these tracks were also my first compositions that utilized Cakewalk, and that is immediately apparent in the "tightness" of those tracks. The Cakewalk tracks include; Main Line and the 401_not found remixes.

This was a satisfying compilation for me, as many of the tracks worked out quite nicely. It was however, still largely experimental, and some of the songs are somewhat hit and miss.

Divine Simplicity, Kontinue and Sulfur were composed and sequenced purely with internal keyboard and drum machine sequencers, or played live to tape. Wait was composed completely by random, using software which simulates wind chimes, then converts that signal to a MIDI sequence.

07 | 401_not_found

08 | Magnetic fields II [paper edit]

Never odd or eveN is the first compilation in the double release with Bigfish and Paperbirds. This compilation contains mostly covers of other artists, although k-58-1-4 and 401_not found are originals. Although many of the tracks use Cakewalk and Soundfonts, k-58-1-4 was programmed purely with internal keyboard and drum machine sequencing with portions played live to tape. It remains one of my all time favourite tracks.

The track Re-Entry was one of my very first stabs at any music recording. It was created using a DX-7 in an assignment for a multi-track recording class in 1987.

Blue is a remixed/resampled version of the original song by LaTour. It has been updated with samples of Jack Kerouac poetry. Das Model is the only track in which I actually sing. (So you've been warned!...)

enjoy.
